Trinidad and Tobago
Underexplored Trinidad and Tobago, known as the home and heart of West Indian Carnival, is exciting and full of culture.
Tobago, the more relaxed and slow paced of the two islands, is full of unspoiled natural beauties, glorious deserted beaches, stunning coral reefs and lush rainforest. Tobago has the largest brain coral in the world and it is common to have sightings of manta rays. Tobago is also home to the oldest forest reserve in the Caribbean, after a two-hour hike through the forest to the Main Ridge lookout hut, you can view spectacular sights.
The livelier Trinidad has a mix of landscapes to explore too as well as many spectacular nature sights. Trinidad has around 430 species of birds in an area of 4830 square kilometres, which makes for an ideal bird watching spot. There is also the chance to take a boat trip to watch leatherback turtles nest on remote beaches.
Excellent transport along the west coast of Trinidad, providing great access to the Port of Spain, the islands capital full of culture and the centre of Trinidads booming economy.
Both Trinidad and Tobago offer excellent cuisine with a mix of influences, African, European, Chinese, and Indian. Local cooking is certainly a treat to experience.
Trinidad and Tobago are considered to be one of the cheapest Caribbean destinations as they have a low profile on the tourist market. Trinidad and Tobago dollar (TT$) is the local currency and the exchange rate is reasonably good in Trinidad and Tobago.
January to March is the carnival season with temperatures around 25–30°C, June to December is the rainy season with a two - four week dry spell in September.
